Meet the Level Designers

The LD team has been assembled from some of the brightest lights in the WW2 FPS modding community, with original RO contributors, award-winning modders of RO and a prize-winner from Epic Games' 'Make Something Unreal' competition.

Tony 'Nestor Makhno' Gillham - Level Design Lead

Tony 'Nestor Makhno' Gillham

Nestor cut his teeth with a map, Makhnovo, made early in the days of Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45.

Since then he has worked on the Carpathian Crosses team with the map, Dofinovka, and the Darkest Hour team where he applied the finishing touches to Carentan and Wacht am Rhein as well doing as a lot of the development of Ginkel Heath.

His job is to coordinate the knowledge of the rest of the LD team regarding the UT3 technology and to set goals and deadlines.

Joni 'Xendance' Mäkelä - Level Designer

Joni 'Xendance' Makela

Xendance was the winner of the Red Orchestra custom mapping competition with his map RO-Smolensk_Stalemate in 2007 and has been working with the Unreal Engine since then(bar a stint in the Finnish army as an artillery observer). His map was notable for the way rounds often went down to the last few seconds to be decided and for the use of 'rifle-friendly' engagement distances.

"My passion is to make frantic battles, desperate fights for a few inches of ground, where every player is expected to make a sacrifice."

Robert 'DasKarma' Chudalla - Level Designer

Robert 'DasKarma' ChudallaDaskarma worked on the development of several of the maps released when the mod, Red Orchestra went retail in 2006. His best-known contributions were RO-Basovka and RO-Ogledow. He also played a key part in the Carpathian Crosses team, bringing the Romanian army to RO, producing the map RO-Nalchik.

"I want to increase the immersion for the player. Make him feel like he is really there and not just walking his Avatar though a generic environment. The player shall remember the rounds  he played on the map and come back over and over again."

Justyn 'JustFilth' Dagg - Level Designer

Justyn has been an avid gamer and enthusiastic modder and has created custom mods and maps for a variety of games including the Battlefield and Call of Duty series and KillingFloor. In the Killing Floor GrindHouse community mapping contest hosted by Tripwire Interactive he won prized places with 4 out 5 entries. Three of Justyn's KF maps are now available through steam via KillingFloor Updates. Moving into UDK Justyn has worked on several projects as level designer.

"My strength lies in creating hectic battles on wartorn maps. I am looking forward to doing the same for the PTO."

Łukasz "Slyguy" Maj - Level Designer

Łukasz has been a level designer working mainly on single player projects such as Afterfall:Insanity and Cargo 3.

"I like to create epic scale levels teeming with life so that the player believes that this location really exists"
